Posted

The Las Cruces Museum of Art’s (MOA) next “Listen to Your Art” lecture will feature Jess Ziegenfuss, Ph.D., discussing the work of American sculptor Ruth Asawa.

The lecture will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, via Zoom. The link is zoom.us/join, ID: 872 0643 5396, passcode 797278.

Asawa (1926-2013) was known for her sculptures, public art and advocacy for art education in schools, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release. A native of California, Asawa spent most of her career in San Francisco, where she established the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts in 1982.

Ziegenfuss is a modern and contemporary art historian and visual studies scholar teaching and working in New Mexico, the city said. She is an independent curator specializing in online exhibitions, digital preservation techniques and virtually accessible archives and collections. Ziegenfuss holds a Ph.D. in visual studies from the University of California-Irvine and a master of arts degree in women’s, gender and sexuality studies from Ohio State University.
