Local artist wins rock art award

Posted

Agave Artists Cooperative Gallery artist Margaret Berrier (Marglyph) recently received the Klaus Wellman Award for distinguished service to the American Rock Art Research Association (ARARA) in rock art research, conservation and education, the gallery said.

“Berrier’s efforts helped preserve areas with significant rock art in regions of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument,” the gallery said. She assisted the archaeological conservancy in acquiring world-class rock art sites near El Paso.

Berrier’s recent educational efforts resulted in creating a coloring book introducing kids to rock art and proper etiquette at the sites, the gallery said.  The coloring book is available for free at the gallery, 2250 Calle de San Albino in Mesilla. Contact the gallery at 575-339-9870 and agaveartists@gmail.com. Visit https://agaveartists.com/.

You can see Berrier’s work at Agave Gallery, which is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Monday. Her jewelry, watercolors and paper collages will also be on exhibit April 8-May 28 at Rio Bravo Fine Art Gallery, 110 Broadway St. in Truth or Consequences. Call the gallery at 575-894-0572.
