Low-cost pet vaccination, microchip clinic is July 22

Posted

ACTion Programs for Animals (APA) will host a low-cost microchip and vaccination clinic 8-10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the APA adoption center, 537 N. Solano Drive in Las Cruces.

Pre-registration is not required, APA said in a news release.

These services will be offered for $15 each: rabies vaccine: one-year dose, three-year dose when appropriate; microchip; Bordetella vaccine.

These services will be offered free thanks to Petco Love’s national vaccine initiative: DAPP (distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvo) vaccine; and FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and Panleukope) vaccine.

“Thanks to Petco Love, APA continues to be able to offer free vaccines for pet owners in our community,” said APA Executive Director Michel Meunier. “Also, our bi-monthly, low-cost clinics are the only clinics in the area that offer three-year rabies vaccines for qualified animals, and that’s what sets ours apart from other clinics.”

APA is only able to serve well-behaved dogs on leashes and cats in carriers, the news release said. Anyone bringing his or her pet to the clinic should line up outside the clinic in a vehicle, APA said. Each person will be called into the building when it is their turn. APA accepts cash or credit cards.

Anyone in need of a drive-up clinic should call Mesquite Animal Vaccination Clinic at 575-650-2000 or Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley at 575-382-0018.

Since May 2012, APA has rescued more than 5,800 animals. The majority of these have been dogs and cats/kittens taken from the municipal shelter. APA is able to do this through volunteer work of rescue/foster coordinators, foster families, and donations.
