Mesilla honors Day of the Dead

Posted

Events somber and celebratory filled the Plaza in Mesilla Friday through Sunday, Oct. 27-29, for Dia de los Muertos, the annual celebration of departed friends and family.

Many created ofrendas, the traditional altars in memory of loved ones that feature elements unique to that person’s life.

Thursday, Nov. 2, will be the procession from the Plaza to the cemetery in Mesilla, where participants take a walk of a few blocks bearing provided candles.

Dia de los Muertos (“The Day of the Dead”) is traditionally celebrated Oct. 31 (All Hallows' Eve), Nov. 1 (All Saints' Day) and Nov. 2 (All Souls' Day).
