Middle school students graduate from automation, manufacturing camp

Posted

Eleven students from Las Cruces middle schools are now graduates of a Doña Ana Community College camp aimed at giving hands-on experience in automation and manufacturing.

The students participated in DACC’s Quality Control in Additive Manufacturing (QCAM) camp, June 13-16, at the DACC Workforce Center, DACC said in a news release. The camp was hosted by the DACC Automation and Manufacturing Program and funded through a grant from the NMSU College of Engineering.

“Participating students were provided with hands-on opportunities to learn about computer-aided drafting (CAD) solid modeling, 3D printing and related career pathways,” the news release said. “Students created 3D CAD models and prepared them for 3D printing. They also created small projects and assembled a 3D-printed smartphone stand, as well as viewing videos of how 3D printing is used to build houses out of concrete, create complex parts out of metal and print vegetarian steaks.”
