New member donates piano to Young at Heart Chorus

Posted

In response to a request published recently in the Las Cruces Bulletin, the Young at Heart Chorus (YHC) received a donation of a piano that it presented to Solstice Senior Living (SSL) in Las Cruces, allowing the group to continue bringing the joy of its music to the residents there, YHC said in a news release.

“Virginia Crane, a former chorus member, was just returning to sing with the group again as it began its fall schedule and saw the Bulletin article about how the lack of a piano was preventing the chorus from performing at SSL as it had done in past years,” YHC Chair Ray Scroggins said in the news release.

“She offered to donate her piano, a beautiful spinet,” Scroggins said. “Thanks to Virginia, the piano was moved to Solstice in time to accompany YHC at its Sept. 14 concert.”

YHC sings familiar songs with “real” melodies to entertain residents of assisted living and nursing homes and senior centers in the Las Cruces area, the chorus said. It also provides an opportunity for its senior members to sing and enjoy music and friendship together.
