WSMR commander

An Aggie will soon be the new commander at White Sands Missile Range.

According to the Department of Defense, Brig. Gen. Eric L. Sanchez - currently the commanding general with the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii - has been assigned to be commanding general at White Sands Missile Range.

Sanchez is a 1987 distinguished military graduate of New Mexico State University.

He graduated from Santa Fe High School and enlisted into the U.S. Army National Guard while attending college. It was while enrolled in college that Sanchez decided to become a commissioned officer.

Upon commissioning, he served at Fort Bliss, Texas, from 1988-1992 as a platoon leader and battery executive officer and deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991.

No timeline has been given for the transition. The next assignment for current WSMR Commander, Brigadier General Timothy Coffin, is pending according to the base.
