NMSU retiree lunch is Sept. 28; provost, athletic director among guests; topics will include retiree reorganization

New Mexico State University retirees (faculty and staff) are invited to a lunch just for university retirees, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at the NMSU Golf Course Clubhouse, 3000 Herb Wimberly Drive.

The cost is $15 per person.

Spouses and partners are welcome. The meal will consist of a southern Italian buffet.

“Get ready to catch-up with old friends and make new ones,” said Priscilla Bloomquist, who retired from NMSU in 2021 after a long career in the Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management program and is now working part-time in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences Academic Programs office.

During the lunch, retirees will hear from NMSU Provost Alan Shoho, Athletic Director Mario Moccia, Director of Benefits Celeste Uzuete and Chair of the Faculty Senate Gaylene Fasenko.

The lunch comes in response to a recent email to retirees from Shoho to gauge their interest in starting or restarting a retirees organization on campus “to maintain a connection with NMSU and to provide activities which enhance life in retirement for faculty and staff,” Bloomquist said. The NMSU Pioneers organization for university retirees stopped meeting during COVID.

“The feedback (Shoho received) was positive,” she said. “A group of about eight of us met for an initial conversation.”
Bloomquist and Roseanne Bensley, who retired from NMSU Placement/Career Services, “have been working (on volunteers) on getting this event pulled together since then,” Bloomquist said.

The Sept. 28 lunch is the next step.
