Emma Álvarez de La Rosa is an international student at New Mexico State University with a double major in music and anthropology. She will be spending the summer at the Smithsonian Folklife and Cultural Heritage Center in Washington, D.C. through an advanced level folklife festival internship that begins June 5, NMSU said in a news release. Álvarez de La Rosa was recommended for the internship by NMSU cultural anthropology professor Lois Stanford. Álvarez de La Rosa is completing work on her undergraduate honors thesis project on traditional lullabies of the U.S.-Mexico border region. She did field work in a small community south of Cuidad Juarez, Mexico. A cellist, Álvarez de La Rosa plans to graduate from NMSU in May 2024 and enter a Ph.D. program, NMSU said.
