Organ Mountains Pickleball Club (OMPC) is sponsoring its first ever sanctioned national tournament, the Southwest Organ Mountains Open, Friday-Sunday, Oct. 21-23, at the eight pickleball courts at Apodaca Park, 801 E. Madrid Ave.
The event will include women’s doubles on Oct. 21, mixed doubles on Oct. 22 and men’s doubles on Oct. 23. Each competition begins with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m. with play starting about 8:30 a.m. and continuing through the late afternoon.
Registration is $65, which includes all events, and is open through Oct. 16.
Register at pickleballtournaments.com and enter “Southwest Organ Mountains Open” in the search box.
Click in the green “+ Register” box to sign up to play in the tournament.
You can register as an event volunteer by clicking “View Details” and scrolling down to click on “Register as a Volunteer.”
The minimum age to play in the tournament is 12.
Event sponsors are also welcome.
The event will include food trucks.
Event organizers said tournament players have already signed up from throughout southern New Mexico and from other states as well.
Proceeds from the tournament will help local agencies provide clothes and shoes for children in need, OMPC said.
