Public comments open on new emergency center

Posted

Doña Ana County is building a new Emergency Operations Center on land owned by New Mexico State University and as part of the process, the county’s Office of Emergency Management is seeking public comment this week.

The new Emergency Operations Center will be located near the University Golf Course and water tanks and will house the following functions, according to the county: Administrative OEM offices; a disaster supply warehouse; a coordination center for disaster response including municipalities, school districts, the university, and more; and a centralized training center.

The OEM seeks input from those residing near the site and the public may attend either of two public meetings about the project. The "drop-in" public comment meetings will welcome residents at any time for comments and questions. They will be hosted at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2550 Don Roser Drive in Las Cruces, as follows:

  • Thursday, Dec. 14: 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 16: 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Residents unable to attend may also provide comments or ask questions about this project by requesting a meeting with OEM staff or sending their comments to: Office of Emergency Management, 1170 N. Solano, Suite O, Las Cruces, NM 88001; email OEM@donaanacounty.org; telephone 575-647-7900.

The webpage at DonaAnaCounty.org/EOC_project will soon feature updates and frequently-asked questions, the county stated in a news release.
