‘Ruddigore’ hits Black Box Aug. 5-6

Posted

Black Box Theatre (BBT), 430 N. Main St., will host two performances of “Ruddigore; also known as “The Witch’s Curse,” 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6.

Tickets are $15 regular admission and $12 for students and seniors over age 65.

The show will be performed by the Gilbert & Sullivan Company of El Paso.

“Ruddigore” is “a frightful story of a fair maiden, professional bridesmaids, a wicked villain and threatening ghosts that come to life to enforce a witch's curse,” the company said in a news release. “Many years ago, all the baronets of Ruddigore were cursed by a witch and must commit a crime a day or be tortured to death. To escape this dreadful fate, the latest Baronet, Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, disguises himself as simple farmer Robin Oakapple while his younger brother assumed the title and the curse. Robin is in love with beautiful Rose Maybud and wants to wed her and lead an honest life. Somehow, Robin must find a way to break the witch's curse, or their future is doomed.”

Theatre tickets

BBT is returning to its former ticketing system. To make reservations for any show at the theatre, just call 575-523-1223.

“If you get the answering machine, please leave a message with your name (spell your last name), the performance you wish to attend, the number of seats you require and any seating requests you might have,” BBT co-owner Ceil Herman said. “Be sure to let us know if you have any issues that require special seating. You will pay when you come to the performance.”

Herman requested that patrons pay either by cash or check, if possible, so the theatre can avoid costly service charges.
