School Board votes to continue online education

Posted

The board voted unanimously 5-0 to continue the fall semester exclusively online. Tenorio initially motioned for hybrid but no one seconded, and then voted with the rest of the board to support the district’s recommendation to remain online. The board then voted 4-1 to allow certain students on campus for support learning services. President Dallman was the dissenting vote.

Tenorio had previously made a motion to continue the fall semester in hybrid (online and in class), but the motion died for lack of a second, Jameson said.

The board approved a recommendation from Superintendent Karen Trujillo “to bring in small groups of students who require in-person learning, like special education students, English learners and those students who need in-person tutoring,” Jameson said. “Early childhood programs were also approved to be phased in this semester, but we are reconsidering what they will look like,” she said.

Jameson said a “majority of students surveyed indicated they preferred to come back in the hybrid model after the first nine weeks.”
