The statewide competition for the New Mexico Senior Olympics Ernesto Ramos State Summer Games is taking place this week at New Mexico State University with events running through Saturday, June 10.

More than 600 participants were expected to be in Las Cruces from all corners of the state.

Athletes will be competing in dozens of events, including the newest one for this year: cornhole.

Athletes who score well enough in their events will cqualify for the National Senior Games, which will be in Pittsburgh in July.

New Mexico Senior Olympics is dedicated to providing adults 50 and older with opportunities for a healthy active lifestyle.

NMSO’s  mission is to promote physical fitness for seniors statewide.

Local seniors interested in participating in next year’s summer games, may try to achieve a qualifying score in the Doña Ana County Senior Games held next March.
