Shakespeare on the Big Ditch in Silver City

Auditions for DitchSpeare April 19 & 20

TheActrix Studio LLC is holding an open call for the 2nd DitchSpeare classical street theatre event this Friday and Saturday. Ditchspeare received great acclaim when it premiered last year, prompting organizers to expand the experiment to an annual event. Friday, April 19, evening auditions will be from 5-6:30 p.m. at El Sol Theatre, 406 N Bullard, Silver City. Saturday, April 20, afternoon auditions 2-3:30 p.m. in the Museum Courtyard, 312 W Broadway St, Silver City.

Hopeful performers are encouraged to bring a classical monologue from Shakespeare or his contemporaries such as Lope de Vega, Thomas Middleton, or Sor Juana de la Cruz or to select one of the speeches to read provided during the information session. Musicians, singers, dancers and other performers are encouraged to apply. Auditions will consist of a short Q&A and a cold read or prepared monologue.

TheActrix Studios LLC

TheActrix Studio LLC offers compelling productions, youth and family actor training, as well as personal and professional development for the whole family and the larger community. TheActrix was founded in 2024 by Wendy Spurgeon who has worked with organizations such as Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Virus Theatre, and was a founding member of Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts and StageCoach Theatre School. It has produced, The Vagina Monologues as a fundraiser for SAAS, several youth drama camps, and Frankenstein, premiering at the Fine Arts Center Theatre in April 2024. 

Hallie Harris, director

Hallie began DitchSpeare in 2023, to celebrate the poetic language of classical drama and as a vehicle for actors to collaborate and stretch into new roles. Hallie has directed youth and community theatre, including DitchSpeareMarjorie Prime, and Seussical Jr. She has been teaching improv to kids, old folks, and people in between since 2013. She was a member of her college improv team, The Collective, and a founding member of Project Seattle Street Theater, among others and recently appeared on stage in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. She has studied improv, acting, and directing at institutions like UW Seattle, Jet City, The PIT, The American Conservatory Theater Studio, Washington Improv Theater (DC,) Second City (Chicago,) and The Groundlings.
