Sons of the American Revolution honors nurse

At its September meeting, Gadsden Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) President Robert Vance presented Crystal Davis Whited with the SAR EMS medal and commendation award.

Whited has been a registered nurse for 21 years, SAR said in a news release. She graduated from New Mexico State University in 2002, made the dean’s list and Magna Cum Laude.

Whited works in the intensive care unit at Memorial Medical Center (MMC) and served as MMC’s employee health nurse, SAR said. For the last seven years, Whited has been nurse manager at the U.S. Veterans Administration clinic in Las Cruces.

“During the pandemic, Whited displayed her dedication to helping people in need,” SAR said. “She was allowed several leaves from the VA and volunteered for three separate covid deployments, traveling to Gallup, New Mexico, to the Hopi reservation in Arizona and to Mississippi to work in hospitals there, as they were experiencing severe patient loads, taxing the local resources and personnel.”

In 2017, Whited joined the Town of Mesilla Fire Department, where she volunteers as a firefighter and investigations officer. She has received national registry EMT-basic certification.
