Standup comedy show about science is Nov. 2 at Rio Grande Theatre

Posted

Coming to Rio Grande Theatre (RGT), 211 N. Main St., at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, is a multimedia stand-up comedy show about science, featuring New York City-based scientist and comedian Ben Miller.

For his first few years as a comedian, Miller was extremely hesitant to tell people he was a scientist with an Ivy League education. He worried about coming off as pretentious or unrelatable, something that can easily kill any connection with an audience.

Miller filmed a few episodes of a web series called “Stand-Up Science.” He continued making the web series that has now been developed into the live show he will present in Las Cruces.

In the past seven years, Miller has performed at New York City’s Broadway Comedy Club, Stand Up NY, Dangerfield's, Carolines and The Stand.

Miller has a degree in materials science and engineering from Columbia University. He's worked with electron microscopes, been a teacher on a science bus, 3D printed cookies and diffused a few bar fights while on stage. In 2023, he was an Artist in Residence at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, the first ever stand-up comedian selected by the National Parks Arts Foundation.

Tickets to the RGT show are $20.
