‘Stuffing the Bus’ for students

Bravo Mic Communications’ family of radio stations have changed their annual school supply initiative to match the changes for the coming school year at Las Cruces Public Schools.

“We knew our regular school supply drive wasn’t going to be nearly as effective for our kids, parents and teachers during the pandemic,” said Lyndsey Kalson, Bravo Mic Communications Operations Manager. “Not only has distance-learning changed the needs of our community, but public health and safety are also something we needed to keep top of mind. So, instead of asking for typical school supplies this year, we’ve shifted our focus to raise money to be used for technology access and affordable internet access for all families and teachers for the 2020-2021 school year.”

“Every year we look forward to helping our kids in Cruces. This year is no different, even if the help we are providing is changing a little. Maybe even for the better,” said Ricky Tarin, Program Director for Magic 104.9

Friday, July 31, the Bravo Mic Communications stations will broadcast live on location with LCPS to raise money for “Stuff the Bus” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Phones will be provided by the school district and LCPS staff will be taking public donations all day.

101 Gold, Zia Country 99.5, Magic 104.9, La Equis 96.7 and News Talk 92.7/1450 AM KOBE will share stories from students, parents, teachers and community throughout the day and share donation links and donation “thank you’s” live on-air.

All donations raised go directly to the Las Cruces Public School district to cover the following: technology access for rural and low-income students, low cost/free Internet access for students and teachers and basic supplies needed by all remote-learning students.

Donations can also be made anytime through Aug. 31 online directly at lascrucestoday.com/stuffthebus.
