Two local games this week

Mesilla Valley Christian School joined Mayfield High School as the only Las Cruces teams undefeated after Week 2 of the high school football season.

Both teams are 1-0.

Mesilla Valley Christian School defeated Clayton 50-18 on the road Aug. 26.

Class 5A Mayfield’s Week 2 game Aug. 25 against Santa Teresa was canceled because of lightning.

The city’s three Class 6A teams have each begun the season 0-2.

Aug. 24, El Paso Americas defeated Las Cruces High School 44-19 at the Field of Dreams. The next night, in El Paso, Franklin High School defeated Centennial High School 29-17. And Aug. 26 in Las Cruces, Deming beat Organ Mountain High School 33-6.

More non-district games take place this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 1, Organ Mountain is at Mayfield 7 p.m. at the Field of Dreams. Las Cruces High School is on the road at El Paso Eastwood for a 7 p.m. game. Mesilla Valley Christian School travels to Fort Sumner for an 8 p.m. game.

Saturday, Sept. 2, Albuquerque LaCueva plays at Centennial in a 1 p.m. game at the Field of Dreams.

This year’s Cruces-Mayfield game is Friday, Sept. 15.
