Celebrate the season with the New Mexico State University Theatre Arts and American Southwest Theatre Company as they present the return of A Christmas Carol to Las Cruces. This new adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, adapted by Niall McGinty follows the spirits of Christmas past, present, and yet to come as they guide the bitter miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, on his journey to redemption and transformation.
The cast of all NMSU students and young actors from the community "raise the ghost of an idea" with music, dance, and haunting storytelling. Opening the Saturday after Thanksgiving, it is a perfect time to spend with your friends and family.
This marks the 10th production of A Christmas Carol director Nichole Hamilton has worked on in some capacity.
"Although a familiar story and deceivingly simple, it is a large puzzle to solve in staging a production of this nature,” Hamilton said. “There are a lot of moving parts, a lot of problems to solve, but what we are always left with is a gift - the gift of time to reflect on our past, present, and our future and how we may serve others."
The production stars Alex Smith as Scrooge, Lucene Drissell as Bob Cratchet, and Heber Greenwood as Tiny Tim.
Performances are scheduled for Nov. 29 and Dec. 4,5, and 6 at 7 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 and Dec. 6.
