Abigail Urquidi solves entrepreneurship

Posted

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” That quote from Corrie ten Boom is one that Abigail Urquidi lives by. The 17-year-old Las Cruces High senior loves a challenge and has a particular interest in solving math problems.

That is her favorite subject and she dreams of turning it into a career.

“I understand it, and solving equations is fun,” Urquidi said.

This summer Urquidi will graduate from high school with a full resume of practical experience gained through her association with Kids Can. She is already proving that creativity, determination, and a love of learning can come together to form a thriving small business.

As the founder of Desert Fox Jewelry, Urquidi designs and handcrafts unique accessories that reflect both her artistic spirit and her southwestern roots. Her dream career as a mathematician will come, but for now, she is applying those analytical skills to entrepreneurship

Desert Fox Jewelry offers a wide variety of handmade items, including earrings, bracelets, necklaces, beaded bookmarks, and keychains. Each piece is created entirely by hand, a process that takes about 30 minutes on average, with prices ranging from $5 to $20, making them both personal and affordable.

Urquidi’s journey into entrepreneurship began when she discovered the Kids Can Business program that allowed her to gain practical experience.

“I wanted to learn the inner workings of owning a business,” Urquidi said. She has been a part of the Kids Can family for nine years. Through this experience, she has gained hands-on knowledge in pricing, marketing, time management, and customer engagement.

She promotes her work through social media and can be found on Instagram and Facebook under @desertfoxjewelry, where she shares photos of her latest creations and connects with customers.
