Acompañantes: Called into action by our faith

Posted

We are Interfaith Las Cruces, a group of faith-based leaders in Las Cruces whose faith has called us to nonviolent action, education, dialogue, and mutual support. We respect and embrace the diversity of faith communities and spiritual traditions present in our community, recognizing the sacredness of each.

We realized the past systems and practices were not meeting the needs of our communities. Through Acompañamiento, we seek to respond with intentionality to issues that impact our region, especially those that affect vulnerable people in our communities.

As Acompañantes, it means that we join arms as members of this community as we go through everything together: the good, the bad, and the moments where extra strength is needed; the moments where we need to be reminded of where we have been and where we need to go. It means being willing to experience everything together with each other.

People often think they don't belong in a community. And we're offering viable options of belonging before belief.

As faith leaders we are called to have an encounter with others; to listen to their stories and to get to know them through relationships. We are called to walk through the world with those most in need; we accompany others. We are open to dialogue and are willing to be present, especially to those who are rejected and marginalized. We strive to be relational and serve as a reminder to our communities of this foundation of faith.

We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, those who stand with us today, to ensure a future full of abundant hope. All of this is to strengthen our community by putting our faith into action.
