NM State baseball exploded for nine runs in the first inning and never looked back on Tuesday at Presley Askew Field at Johnson Stadium, rolling to a 19-7 win over Southwest. The Aggies tallied 15 hits and scored in six different innings, posting their highest run total since 2024.
The opening frame set the tone as NMSU sent 12 batters to the plate. Bryce Campbell, Chris Daniels and Cole Rogers each delivered early RBIs before Brandon Clizbe and Aidan Taclas capped the outburst with a three-run home run and a two-run home run, respectively, to give the Aggies an early 9-0 advantage.
For Clizbe, it was the first home run of his collegiate career, while Campbell pushed his hitting stream to a team-high six games.
After Southwest struck for four in the third, the Aggies countered with two more in the fourth behind an RBI groundout from Meluskey and an RBI single from Clough. NM State added two in the sixth on Clough’s two‑run homer, three more in the seventh highlighted by a two‑RBI single from Rogers, and two in the eighth to stretch the margin to 19–6.
The Aggies’ 19 runs marked the most in a single game for the program since April 28, 2024, when the Crimson and White posted 22 runs in a road win over Jax State.
Rogers continued the hottest stretch of his young career, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs. With the Tuesday performance, Rogers is now 8-for-10 with nine RBIs over his last three games.
Working an effective 1-1/3 innings in which he allowed just one base runner, Carson Timmons collected the second win of his collegiate career.
Clough finished the night with a career best four RBIs, while also matching his career highs in hits and home runs.
Southwest plated one in the ninth, but nine Aggie arms combined to allow just two earned runs to help guide the Aggies to their second win of the year. For head coach Jake Angier it was his 50th win as the leader of the Aggies.
