On Saturday, NM State leaned on pitching and timely to secure the middle game over UTEP. The Aggies locked in defensively and made the most of key at‑bats to control the rivalry matchup. Behind a dominant performance in the circle, NMSU captured a 3–0 shutout.

NM State broke through in the second inning when Faith Aragon doubled home the game’s first run. After several scoreless frames, the Aggies added insurance in the fifth as Burks launched a solo homer before Kendal Lunar followed with a home run of her own in the next at‑bat. Faith Aragon handled the rest, retiring UTEP down the stretch to seal the shutout victory. She threw a complete‑game shutout, allowing three hits while striking out 10.

Starting out right

The Aggies opened the rivalry weekend against UTEP with a strong offensive showing Friday night at the NM State Softball Complex. The Aggies struck early and continued to add on through the first three innings, building separation and controlling the pace.

Behind timely hitting up and down the lineup and steady work in the circle, NMSU claimed an 8-3 victory in the series opener.

NM State wasted no time, scoring in the first on an RBI double from Lauren Garcia before erupting for three runs in the second, highlighted by a three‑run homer by Burks. The Aggies added four more in the third, with RBIs from Bachman, Burks, and Faith Aragon extending the lead to 8-2. Aragon settled in after a brief second‑inning surge from UTEP and closed out the game in the circle to secure the win.

Burks finished with four RBIs, while Bachman was 2‑for‑3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Johnna Aragon scored twice and reached base twice from the bottom half of the lineup.
