The New Mexico State women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule in convincing fashion Saturday morning, sweeping UT Permian Basin, 7-0, in an exhibition match at the NM State Tennis Center.
The match marked the Aggies’ first action of the spring season as NMSU used the exhibition to gain valuable match experience ahead of its official season opener later this month.
NM State set the tone early by claiming all three doubles matches. Anna Pinaieva and Whitney Moon earned a 6-3 win on court one, while the duo of Montana Parkinson-Lubold and Dora Kurdi followed with a 6-4 victory on court two. The Aggies completed the doubles sweep as Nadia Nemeth and Anna Klimova cruised to a 6-0 win on court three.
In singles play, the Aggies continued their momentum, winning all six matches in straight sets. Pinaieva was dominant at the top spot, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Moon followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court two. Nemeth added a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles, and Parkinson-Lubold posted a clean 6-0, 6-0 performance on court four.
Klimova delivered a 6-1, 6-1 win at the fifth position, while Mariella Gelbke rounded out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court six.
The Aggies will officially open the 2026 spring season on Jan. 24, traveling to face Oregon in their first sanctioned dual match of the year.
