Posted

The NM State men's tennis team capped off a dominant Saturday at the NM State Tennis Center, sweeping a doubleheader against Western New Mexico with a 7-0 victory in the opening match before securing a 4-0 win in the second dual of the day.

The Aggies controlled play throughout both matches, dropping just one completed set across the two contests contested Feb. 28.

NMSU set the tone early in the first match, sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the opening point against the Mustangs.

At No. 1 doubles, Holland Snell and Lance Urlaub earned a 6-4 victory over Mael Houee and Yannik Rogulski. Roko Stipetic and Tobias Wallin followed with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 position against David Guta and Benjamin Vriends, while Patrick Lohmann and Matias Rojas completed the sweep with a 6-1 triumph on court three over Djamel-Dine Bey and Christoph Lund-Kuhl.

In singles play, the Aggies continued their strong form against Western New Mexico by claiming all six courts in straight sets.

Snell delivered a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Houee at No. 1 singles, while Wallin rolled past Rogulski 6-4, 6-0 on court two. Stipetic secured a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Vriends at the No. 3 spot, and Urlaub added a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Guta at No. 4 singles.

Rojas earned a 6-2, 6-1 win against Lund-Kuhl on court five, and Laurendi Fischer capped off the sweep with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over Bey at No. 6 to seal the 7-0 result over the Mustangs.

The Aggies carried their momentum into the second match of the day, once again taking control early.

In doubles action, Snell and Urlaub posted a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Guta and Vriends, while Laurendi Fischer and Patrick Lohmann matched that score on court three with a 6-1 victory against Bey and Lund-Kuhl to clinch the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Stipetic and Wallin against Houee and Rogulski went unfinished.

Singles play saw NMSU quickly reach the four-point threshold.

Snell remained unbeaten on the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rogulski at No. 1 singles to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead. Stipetic followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Lund-Kuhl at the No. 4 position, and Rojas secured the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Guta on court five as NM State completed the 4-0 sweep.

Matches on the remaining courts, featuring Wallin, Urlaub and Lohmann, went unfinished once the Aggies secured the decisive fourth point.

NMSU will hit the road for its next competition as the Aggies gear up for the Sacramento State Invite in California next week. NM State is scheduled to compete on Mar. 6 and 7 as they continue their regular season slate.
