An artist, Liz Wright, is starting new craft workshops in Mesilla starting in mid-August.
Wright, who said she has been making art since childhood, will be offering a class in resin art starting August 13. She said this class has been the most popular she’s offered and will involve coloring and pouring an epoxy resin.
Wright called working with resin “a fluid medium.”
“When it dries, you get this really great glossy waterproof surface,” she said.
Wright’s new studio, called Assembly Craft Studio, 1730 Tierra de Mesilla, will host a variety of classes. Wright moved to Las Cruces from Portland, Ore., in 2022. She said she was “chasing the sunshine.”
“It’s a really beautiful area,” she said.
Wright has been teaching art online. She said she misses the in-person experience, so that led her to find a studio in Mesilla where she could start offering classes locally.
Wright calls herself a multi-disciplinary artist and a life-long learner.
“I would find a new craft and teach myself, buy a kit, watch a video, then move on to the next thing. I want to share what I know. It’s an excuse to learn new things, come up with new crafts,” she said.
Wright said she hopes that in time her new studio will become a place for people to gather.
“Bring friends, I hope it becomes a gathering spot,” she said.
