Black Box Theatre’s ‘Miss Bennet Christmas at Pemberly’ opens Dec. 2

In Black Box Theatre’s (BBT) upcoming production of “Miss Bennet Christmas at Pemberly,” by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, we find Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy “tucked away in a homey and mysterious corner of England” two years following the events of “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen, BBT said in a news release.

The production is directed for BBT by Nikka Zimmer and Eric Hadley. The cast is comprised of Erin Wendorf, Gina de Mondo, Casi Galban, Mckensi Cabot, AJ Tumminaro, Brad Martinez, Joseluis Solorzano and Debbie Jo Felix.

In the play, “Jane and Charles Bingley, Mary Bennet, Kitty Bennet, Lydia Wickham and their mother and father are all on their way to spend Christmas at the Pemberley estate, but all is not well in paradise,” the release said. “Everyone’s favorite character, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, has recently passed, leaving her fortune to her daughter, Anne de Bourgh, who, despite being a quiet, awkward girl, now acts conspicuously like her mother. The estate is left to the closest male heir, a distant cousin of Darcy named Arthur de Bourgh.”

“Arthur is an Oxford man, a student of natural science, the great wide world and snails,” BBT said. “He’s not the smoothest operator, but when he meets Mary Bennet. also not the smoothest operator, sparks begin to fly. It becomes increasingly clear how wonderful a match they would be, but can they navigate the world of the social climate and decorum and find each other? If only they had some kind of map.”

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3, 9-10 and 16-17; 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 and 18; and 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.
