City council appoints second municipal judge

Posted

Las Cruces attorney Anthony F. Filosa was unanimously approved as the new City of Las Cruces municipal judge II at the Las Cruces City Council’s regular meeting April 3.

Filosa was born in Las Cruces and grew up in Truth or Consequences, he told council members at the meeting. He is a graduate of New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico School of Law. Filosa is an attorney with the New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender in Las Cruces and has been a managing attorney with that office for the past three years.

Filosa was deployed to Iraq as a member of the United States Army in 2010. He and his wife have a two-year-old daughter.

“I believe the municipal court serves an important role in this community,” Filosa told the council. “I’ll pledge to work hard for the citizens of Las Cruces.”

As municipal judge II, Filosa said he will “treat people with fairness and dignity … and handle cases in a fair and just manner.”

Filosa replaces Jessica Streeter as municipal judge II. She resigned earlier this year. Joy Goldbaum is presiding municipal judge.
