Hector Terrazas was named as the city of Las Cruces’ deputy director for natural gas and energy, according to a news release.

Per a job description posted online, Terrazas is expected to “manage the operations, functions, and activities of the Natural Gas and Energy line of business in order to provide high-quality services and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations."

The city said Terrazas began his public service career in 2007 as a roadway inspector with the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The release said he joined the city in 2008 as a co-op student while attending New Mexico State University.

In 2011, Terrazas earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and started full-time with the city that same year.

“Terrazas earned his Professional Engineer licensure in 2015 and managed multiple capital infrastructure projects,” the release said, adding that Terrazas transitioned to Traffic Operations Engineer in 2018, became a Senior Civil Engineer in 2022 and earned his Professional Traffic Operations Engineer certification in 2023.
