The team behind the city of Las Cruces’ traffic management program was honored last month by the Intelligent Transportation Society of New Mexico, an organization that advocates for public safety technology among private companies, public agencies and research institutions, per its website.
“Intelligent transportation systems” refers to technological systems using digital technology, data and communications to facilitate traffic, such as traffic signals, automated toll collections, satellite mapping systems in vehicles, advanced transit systems and more. A 20-year framework for ITS in the Las Cruces region is available through a link on NewMexicoITS.com.
City staff responsible for signal maintenance and field operations were among those honored at the organization’s annual meeting in Albuquerque on Oct. 16, the city announced in a news release.
The team won the ITS Champion Award, recognizing “outstanding dedication and commitment to the ITS industry.” The award was also bestowed to ITS and municipal signal maintenance staff around New Mexico.
