City wants to hear from the public on GRT tax

Posted

Community meetings regarding how the City of Las Cruces will spend the increased revenue due to the increase in the gross receipts tax are set to begin in late September.

The city is hosting these events after voters approved a measure to increase the GRT by 0.325% in November of 2024. The money can be used for public safety, parks, streets and other infrastructure around the city.

The meetings will be taking place to help the city gauge where the public wants the money to go to and help inform their decision for how to set up the 2024 GRT Capital Improvements fund.

Public meetings will be held at 6 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

     •    District 1- September 30- Branigan Library, Roadrunner Room, 200 E. Picacho Ave.

     •    District 2- October 1- Frank O’Brien Papen Center, 304 Bell Ave.

     •    District 3- October 2- Munson Senior Center, 975 S. Mesquite St.

     •    District 4- October 7- MacArthur Elementary School, 655 4th St.

     •    District 5- October 8- Monte Vista Elementary School, 4915 Peachtree Hills Rd.

     •    District 6- October 9- Doña Ana Community College, East Mesa Campus, 2800 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd.

A final City Council Work Session meeting on October 27 will finalize where the money will go.
