City welcomes new Finance Director

Posted

The city of Las Cruces appointed former Deming Public Schools chief finance officer Lesley Doyle to lead the city’s financial department.

As finance director, Doyle oversees the budget-building process, presents to staff and council and plays other key roles in managing public funds. According to a news release, Doyle brings 25 years of experience, including a previous stint at the city of Las Cruces.

The news release said Doyle received a Bachelor’s in Accountancy and a Master’s in business administration from New Mexico State University. She started her career with the city as a public services and facilities accountant.

In 2004, Doyle joined NMSU as an accountant before starting at Deming Public Schools in 2017.

“She played a crucial role in analyzing and implementing school board policies, providing financial training to the district administration, and working with finance advisors to issue long-term debt,” the release said.

Doyle arrived on the job in the wake of an embezzlement scandal and a searing special audit in 2017, leaving Doyle to implement internal controls and accounting procedures she found were not in place and to rebuild public trust in the school district’s handling of public money.
