The Aggies’ new men’s basketball coach, Jason Hooten, sat down with Mike Cook of the Las Cruces Bulletin to talk about his arrival at NMSU, and the job before him.

Jason Hooten arrived on the New Mexico State University campus in April, tasked with the assignment of leading the men’s basketball team as head coach.

Hooten had spent 13 years at Sam Houston, coaching the Bearkats in Huntsville, Texas. His family has now arrived in Las Cruces and he’s spent the last few months assembling a coaching staff and a team of players. When he visited with the Las Cruces Bulletin, he had just signed his 11th player on a roster that can have 13 scholarship players.

He said he’s excited to be at a university whose legacy includes the great coach Lou Henson and his 1970 Final Four Team.
