It’s that time of year again! Join the Asombro Institute for Science Education on Friday, December 12th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for our annual Luminarias: Light Up the Desert event at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park. Come stroll along our paved ADA-accessible trail lit with over 400 luminarias while darkness settles over the surrounding desert. Enjoy free holiday cookies and hot chocolate, shop for stocking stuffers at our pop-up gift shop, roast a marshmallow over the fire, and look through a telescope. Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalup starts at 9 a.m. with the Fiesta Mass and Investiture of 2025 Mayordomos. At 10:30 a.m. Indian and Danzante Dancers in front of Santurio. 12 p.m. Traditional Fiesta meal at La Casa de Comida. 1 p.m. Indian and Danzante dancing continues. 4 p.m. Procession around Tortugas Village. 5 p.m. Rosary and Eucharistic Benediction at the Santuario.

The Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society is sponsoring three events in December, featuring local musicians from the borderland. The Border Jazz Orchestra, an affiliate of MVJBS, will present the first event, Swingin’ in the Holidays, on Saturday, Dec. 13. The roughly 20-member ensemble will be joined by El Paso’s Candice Reyes at Atkinson Recital Hall for some jazzy Christmas standards and more. MVJBS will host its annual Membership Holiday Party at Alma D’Arte Charter High School. Society members and their guests are invited to join in on a pot luck social ahead of music by the Candice Reyes Quintet. Mesilla Valley Chorale ‘s Holiday concert, An Unexpected Christmas Concert, which will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 14th at the Rio Grande Theatre. It will include surprising and entertaining versions of holiday and seasonal favorites such as Tomorrow Will Be My Dancing Day, I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, Deck the Halls, Bethlehem Carol and many more.
