New Mexico State Police are investigating a crash that left one man dead and three people injured, including two Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies.
The crash occurred on Interstate 25 at about 6:25 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, leaving traffic backed up in the area for hours.
According to a sheriff’s office news release, two deputies in one unit were traveling south on Interstate 25 between Highway 70 and Lohman Avenue when a vehicle pulled out in front of them “at a significantly slower speed.”
DASO said the deputies were responding to a call involving an injured child in the Las Alturas area with their lights and sirens activated.
The vehicle contained a man and woman, whom DASO did not identify in their news release. The man was found unresponsive after the crash and taken to an area hospital, where he later died, DASO reported.
The women and both deputies were also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. New Mexico State Police is investigating the incident. An NMSP spokesperson told the Las Cruces Bulletin they were preparing more information to release to the public on Tuesday.
