Fire Damages Home on Desert Drive

Posted

The Las Cruces Fire Department reported Thursday that an early morning fire damaged a two-story home in the 2200 block of Desert Drive.

Firefighters responded approximately 5 a.m. to find the fire active on both floors as well as the attic, according to the city. The homeowner had been asleep on the second floor, the LCFD reported, but was roused by a smoke alarm and escaped before fire had consumed the staircase.

The city said the fire was subdued in 17 minutes and no other occupants were located. No injuries were reported, including among 24 firefighters who responded to the emergency. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and an estimate of the property damage was not available.
