Firefighters Assist County with Glass Road Fire

Posted

A wind-driven fire destroyed a mobile home in the 2800 block of Glass Road on Sunday, April 27.

Las Cruces and Doña Ana County firefighters responded to a call about a structure fire at about 3:45 p.m. on Sunday. Because of the strong winds and numerous exposures around the fire, the Las Cruces Fire Department were called to assist the county.

The exposures included a large propane tank, live power lines and at least one nearby home. The National Weather Service issued a high-wind warning, a blowing dust warning and a red flag warning for Sunday because of wind strength. The winds spread flames from the mobile home fire to more than 300 yards from the home, according to a news release.

Firefighters got the fire under control within about 30 minutes, according to the news release. Dona Ana County fire units remained on the scene for several hours to extinguish hot spots.

The Dona Ana County Fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported, according to the news release.
