Fourth Annual River Run canceled

Posted

The 4th Annual River Run has been canceled for 2020. The event was set for Oct. 17. Organizers were unable to obtain the necessary permit(s) in order to proceed with the event.

The following is to inform the public that the Doña Ana Sheriff’s Office will be patrolling the river and enforcing prohibited activities such as trespassing, illegally parked vehicles, etc. The river, the banks, and the levee roads are not open to vehicular traffic.  However, pedestrian, equestrian, and bicycles are allowed unless otherwise posted. Beginning October 16, 2020, deputies will issue citations and tow vehicles illegally parked on International Boundary and Water Commission property.

The river, the banks, and the levees are jointly held by the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Elephant Butte Irrigation District (EBID) and includes the entire river frontage from the south end of Dona Ana County to the north end of Dona Ana County.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office has been granted authority to enforce trespassing through Memorandums of Agreement between all three agencies. Many areas along the river are marked with No Trespassing signs, so it is important to heed these warnings.

As to other areas of interest by off road groups, please contact the Bureau of Land Management for further information as to prohibited areas in and around the monuments.
