George Douglas Jackson, 70, of Las Cruces, NM passed away on December 21, 2025. Doug was born in Denver, Colorado to Margot and Charles Jackson. He spent over four decades as a nationally recognized educator of the Deaf in Florida and Texas. He wrote and organized mock trials for his students, not just at their school but in a courtroom, with a real judge, and assistance from local lawyers. He ran Kids Voting programs, encouraging kids to understand and love civic engagement. He passionately believed in ensuring his students knew their rights, knew how to speak for themselves, and recognized their own power. He believed that every voice matters, especially in the pursuit of our American experiment.
When he retired, Doug found himself needing outlets for his enormous font of creativity. He joined a hot air balloon crew. He started making ceramic figurines (and had several shows locally). He pursued his natural proclivity for storytelling, engaging children in schools and community spaces across Las Cruces. He regularly visited his grandchildren in Hawaii and Vermont, who were always delighted to play with Papa. He lived for others - he lived for connection.
Remaining to cherish Douglas’ memory are children, Christophe (Verena) and Marieke; grandchildren, Roman, Aksel, and Callie; sisters, Kris and Leslie; and any person who carries his stories forward.
Preceding Douglas in death are his parents, Charles and Margot.
A celebration of life will be held March 21st at 2pm at The Farm and Ranch Museum.
