‘Greek Mardi Gras’ comes to Hotel Encanto

Apokriatiko Glendi – Greek Mardi Gras – is an evening of great food, live music and fun, a fundraiser and a chance to immerse yourself in Greek culture.

“Party with the Greeks, party with the best!” said Tiffany’s Pizza and Greek Cuisine of Las Cruces owner Barbara Rammos, who is sponsoring the event, which is returning after a six-year absence.

Apokriatiko Glendi is 6 p.m.-midnight, Saturday, Feb. 25, at Hotel Encanto, 705 S. Telshor Blvd.

It will include dinner, live music from Agean Sounds of Albuquerque and dancing, along with Greek dancers, belly dancers and traditional decorations. There will also be a disc jockey playing “all kinds of music” to please every audience, Rammos said.

Dinner choices will be vegetarian (portobello mushroom stuffed with moussaka and cheese), pork kabobs or chicken breast stuffed with spinach and cheese with a lemon sauce. Rice pilaf, beans, Greek salad, dessert and beverage are included.

Dress for the event is semi-formal, she said.

“Dress up! Let’s go,” Rammos said.

The event is for all ages, she said.

Apokriatiko Glendi is also a fundraiser for St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in El Paso, which has a large following in Las Cruces said Rammos, who is president of the church board.

Tickets to Apokriatiko Glendi are $100 each and are available only in advance, Rammos said. Ticket sales will stop about a week before the event, and tickets will not be for sale at the door, she said.

Rammos opened Tiffany’s Pizza, in Telshor Tower Plaza shopping center, 755 S. Telshor Blvd., 26 years ago. It was voted Best Greek Restaurant in the 2022 Bulletin’s Best competition.

Tiffany’s is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday.
