Home run for the heart

Posted

A child who has never had the physical ability to run stands at home plate as a hush falls over the crowd. He takes a swing, connects with the ball, and with a satisfying thwack, it rolls into the outfield.

Then something beautiful happens. A New Mexico State University baseball player kneels beside her, offering quiet words of encouragement before they begin their journey around the bases. With each careful step, the crowd erupts with cheers.

Tears well up in the eyes of parents in the stands as they watch their child, their most precious gift, experience a moment they may have once thought impossible. With the college athlete at his side, the child rounds first, then second, and finally, third base.

As she crosses home plate, a chorus of cheers rain down upon them as high-fives are exchanged. It's not just a run; it's a moment of triumph, a memory of pride and celebration that will last a lifetime. This is the magic of the Warrior League, where every single player gets his chance to shine.

In a world where sports are often defined by wins and losses, the Warrior League stands out for its focus on something far more important: pure, unbridled joy.

Hosted at the home of NMSU Aggie baseball, Presley Askew Field, is ADA-compliant for all participants, making it the ideal venue for this unique tee-ball league in which every child gets to be a star.

This incredible experience is made possible by the unwavering support of the Las Cruces community. Sponsors that include NMSU, Allen Theatres, Kimberly Skaggs, and The Game I & II Sports Bars ensure the Warrior League has everything it needs to succeed. These generous partners, along with Revolution 120, are dedicated to "Changing the Way Las Cruces Gives" and ensuring that every child has a chance to play ball.

Marci Dickerson, owner of The Game, is also the founder of Revolution 120, a reflection of her deep connection to the community and her passion for making a difference.

The program accepts 80 participants, all of whom receive a team hat and jersey. There is still space available in the league. Those interested can sign up in person Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at Presley Askew Field when the players gather for Draft Day. Fans can witness or be a part of this incredible journey beginning with the draft. Games will continue Oct. 12, 19, and Nov. 2.

Businesses interested in becoming a community champion can help make moments like these possible by contacting Dickerson at The Game to learn more about sponsoring a Warrior League team.

Let’s play some ball!
