House fire in Doña Ana results in single fatality

Posted

Doña Ana Fire Rescue crews responded to a residential structure fire in Doña Ana early Sunday morning, Feb. 15.

A nearby neighbor called 911 Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m. to report a home fully engulfed in flames at the 200 block of Horseshoe Circle in Doña Ana.

Doña Ana Fire Rescue and the Las Cruces Fire Department were both dispatched, per the automatic aid agreement between the two agencies. Firefighters arrived to find a very advanced fire at a single-story residence and quickly began defensive fire tactics.

Upon arrival, crews were made aware of a potential occupant inside the residency. Despite best rescue efforts, the fire resulted in the death of an adult, confirmed by a medical investigator on the scene.

The name of the deceased individual will not be available until family is notified. There were no other occupants in the residence, and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Doña Ana Fire Marshal and the New Mexico Fire Marshal's Office.

The Doña Ana Couty Sheriff's Office will maintain scene security until the investigation is complete.
