KRWG Pubilc Media names KC Counts as new content director.

Counts has been the host of Morning Edition since 2021. She started at the public media station as host of All Things Considered in 2019. She replaces Anthony Moreno, who left in June. She has been filling in as interim content director since July 1.

Counts steps into the larger role of being responsible for all content on the public media television, radio and digital platforms just as public media is taking a significant cut in federal funding, due to the budget bill, H.R. 1, which was signed into law by Pres. Trump on July 4. Counts said she is thankful to all the listeners and viewers who have pledged support during the media station’s recent fundraising drive that began last week and is still ongoing.

“We’ve seen an incredible amount of support,” she said.

Counts also referenced the fact that Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has placed public media on her list of priorities for the upcoming Special Session of the New Mexico Legislature, which is to begin on October 1.

“I’m very optimistic,” she said.

Counts has spent much of her 30-year career in commercial radio and she is currently the operations manager for KRWG. But she also worked as a reporter for two TV broadcast news stations in El Paso, KFOX and KVIA, and she spent 15 years with Bravo Mic Communications, where she was vice president of programming responsible for the content for all of the radio properties.

KRWG has listeners and viewers across the Southwest region of New Mexico and far west Texas. The public radio station can be heard from Lordsburg to Alamogordo, and from Truth or Consequences to El Paso.

Counts said she is busy right now preparing for candidate forums for the public media television station to give viewers an opportunity to get to know the candidates running for local office. Election day is Nov. 4.

Counts said she will still be on the air for the forseeable future though that is likely to change.

“Most likely I’ll be hosting All Things Considered through the end of the year,” she said.
