Organ Mountain’s Ashley Galaz continues to hold her own against the strongest competition. The freshman finished third in the girls cross country event against a packed field at the Rob Winter Invitational hosted by the Knights Saturday, Sept. 27.

A pair of seniors, Anna Hastings and Addison Julian, representing the stacked Albuquerque Academy squad, finished ahead of Galaz.

Fellow Organ Mountain freshman Jaymie McBroom was seventh in the race and sophomore Isabella Barlow finished 15th. Mayfield and Centennial also represented in the girls competition, as Trojan senior Arabella Richardson took eighth, with junior Ella Clemons 24th and senior Charlotte Dennis 30th. Centennial senior Eva Nolan captured 11th place.

Boys race

In a boys event dominated by Albuquerque Academy, Organ Mountain sophomore Daxton Coombs stood out. His 16:13 time was good for third. Senior Jacob Sierra from Las Cruces was also a top 10 finisher, and Organ Mountain senior Aiden Poppy was just outside the top 10, in 12th position. Knight sophomore Beaux Beasley also finished among the top 30 runners, in 27th place.

A Centennial quartet delivered a strong performance, with junior Keller Ford (16th), senior Ethan Mondragon (19th), junior Mason Dean (23rd), and senior Mateo Garay (26th) all finished inside the top 30.

Local runners next compete Saturday, Oct. 4 in a meet hosted by Mayfield at the Field of Dreams complex.
