Lights, cameras in southern NM

Film production brings industry focus to Las Cruces and Anthony

Posted

A film production in Las Cruces and Anthony is drawing attention not just for what’s being filmed, but for what it signals about the region’s place in the industry.

“Barracuda,” produced by 828 Productions, recently wrapped filming in southern New Mexico, using locations near Anthony, including stretches of Highway 460 and surrounding roads for night shoots and stunt driving sequences. For producer Todd Lundbohm, the decision to film in the area came down to both practicality and potential.

“Southern New Mexico can support production at a larger scale,” Lundbohm said.

Filming took place over several days in April, with crews working overnight and coordinating intermittent traffic control along key roadways. According to production notices, scenes included chase sequences and stunt driving on rural highways, with local law enforcement assisting in managing traffic flow.

While the set remained closed to the public, the presence of the production still carried weight locally, from temporary road impacts to the use of nearby properties for staging equipment and crew operations. Lundbohm said the experience of working in the region stood out for reasons beyond logistics.

“What keeps bringing me back to New Mexico is the people,” he said. “The crew here are among the most talented and dedicated professionals anywhere in the world.”

The project also arrives during a time of broader discussion around film activity across the state, with Lundbohm noting that while production levels have fluctuated, the foundation remainsstrong.

“The talent, locations, and work ethic here remain world-class,” he said. “The opportunity is still very much alive.”

For now, productions like “Barracuda,” will continue to bring attention to southern New Mexico, offering a cleaner look at how projects in this scale operate in the region.
