Local chamber ensemble, Camerata Del Sol, to extend concert series

Posted

Las Cruces chamber ensemble Camerata Del Sol will present two “rainy day concerts” of Baroque music “featuring internationally renowned soprano and local legend Heather Dials,” Camerata Del Sol Director Amalia Zeitlin said in an email.

The concerts will take place at

  • 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 2709 Alabama St. in El Paso, following the church’s Spanish mass; and
  • 3 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at The Good Samaritan Society of Las Cruces, 3011 Buena Vida Circle in Las Cruces.

There is no charge to attend either concert, but donations are welcome.

Guest artist Héctor Torres, a theorbo player from Denton, Texas, will join Dials on stage, Zeitlin said. Also performing in the concerts will be violists Julio Campos and Elisabeth Greene, as well as violinist Daniel Vega-Albela, who is the artistic director of Camerata Del Sol.

These concerts are an extension of Camerata’s historic and unprecedented “Music By Baroque Women Composers” concerts, which were performed in El Paso and Las Cruces earlier this year, Zeitlin said.

“We were so incredibly thrilled by the amazing turnout we received at our February concerts, which numbered 800 people in total,” Zeitlin said. “We hope the community will once again join us to appreciate these historically overlooked composers, as well as the world-class talent that our local musicians offer.”
