High school cross country runners from across New Mexico descended on Albuquerque Oct. 18 for the Albuquerque Extravaganza, getting a chance to test themselves on the course where the state championships will be contested next month.
Organ Mountain star Daxton Coombs sat this one out, resting with an eye on the rest of the season, but his teammates Aiden Poppy (28th) and Beaux Beasley (32nd) represented the school well in the boys race.
Jacob Sierra of Las Cruces continues to race up the rankings, finishing 18th at this event. Centennial's Keller Ford was another strong local performer, in 40th position.
Girls race
Organ Mountain freshman Ashley Galaz continues to amaze, finishing fifth at Albuquerque among 168 of the top runners in the state. Arabella Richardson of Mayfield captured 29th position, and Centennial's Eva Nolan was 51st.
Galaz is looking for a top three finish when all runners head back to Albuquerque Academy Nov. 8 for the state meet.
Cross country takes a week off before many teams head to Alamogordo Oct. 31 for their next competition.
