Local teen, Ava Lyonne Kincaid, won the title of Miss New Mexico Teen USA in August, and now, the New Mexico Junior College student is moving on to compete against 50 other young ladies across the nation for the title of Miss Teen USA 2025. That pageant is Oct. 18-24 live from the Grand Theater at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.
The Miss Teen USA pageant is part of the Miss Universe Organization and uses its global reach to empower women, encourage them to be self-confident, and continue to strive to be the best they can be. Delegates are savvy, goal-oriented, and aware of world events. These young ladies compete with hopes of advancing their personal, professional, and humanitarian goals, yet also seek to improve the lives of those around them.
Kincaid began competing in pageants as a child but took an extended break from the glitz and glamour to play competitive volleyball at the age of eight. Her efforts paid off because she now plays collegiate volleyball at New Mexico Junior College located in Hobbs, New Mexico, with a full-ride athletic scholarship. Kincaid is a starting outside hitter and recently made the WJCAC all-academic first team for the spring of 2025.
Among her many accomplishments, Kincaid has created a community-driven organization called “Project Open Doors,” which is dedicated to providing resources and support to those in need. Its mission is to channel time, energy, and resources into giving back to their community. The organization aims to build stronger, more connected neighborhoods through meaningful service and support.
Over the past year, Kincaid has partnered with various organizations in Las Cruces and Hobbs, where she volunteered to make a positive impact on countless individuals across multiple communities. She particularly enjoys working with children and sought employment during the summer with the Boys and Girls Club of Las Cruces where she spent every day mentoring local youth.
Kincaid is determined to showcase the wonderous spirit of New Mexico on the national stage and wants to show the nation just how diverse and fabulous our state can be.
“This title isn’t just a crown for me; it’s a microphone to amplify youth voices and show kids in New Mexico that their potential is limitless,” she said. She hopes the pageant will pave the way for her future endeavors as a successful businesswoman who will continue her lifelong journey of inspiring others.
