Mayor’s bike race takes off this weekend

Inflation can be deadly to a politician's career – unless it involves a bike tire.

Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez invited residents to the 2024 Mayor’s Bike Ride on Sept. 14 at 9 a.m. at the south trailhead of La Llorona Trail.

A news release stated that riders can take two routes: a short five-mile ride and a long 14-mile ride.

“This will be a great showcase of the multi-use trails available to all Las Cruces citizens, many I’m sure do not even know they exist,” said George Pearson, vice president of Velo Cruces, in the news release.

A local organization advocating for pedestrian and bicyclist safety, Velo Las Cruces is listed as a co-sponsor, with the city, of the ride.

“The ride is a free, easy, family-friendly event, and riders have the option of turning around at any point if they choose not to complete the entire ride. Helmets are required for all riders,” the release said.

According to the release, parking is available off Calle de Norte and the east levee road.
